Battery Storage
What it is:
A home battery that stores electricity – from solar panels, or from the grid at cheaper off-peak times – for use whenever you need it.
How it works:
Without a battery, solar electricity you don’t use immediately is exported back to the grid for a relatively small payment. A battery lets you store that power and use it yourself in the evening instead, when it’s worth far more to you.
Key benefits:
- Makes solar panels significantly more valuable by letting you use more of what you generate
- Can also be charged on a cheap overnight tariff and used during expensive peak hours, even without solar
- Provides some backup power during short outages, depending on the system
What it costs:
Typically £3,000–£6,000 depending on capacity, usually installed alongside solar panels.
Is it right for your home?
Most valuable alongside solar panels, or for households on a timeof-use electricity tariff. If you use most of your electricity during the day already, the case is weaker – we’ll model your actual usage before recommending one.
