Fourwalls

External Wall Insulation

What it is:
A layer of insulation fixed to the outside of a solid-walled home, then covered with a protective render or cladding finish.
How it works:
Homes without a cavity (typically built before the 1920s, or non-standard construction) lose heat straight through solid brick or stone walls. External wall insulation wraps the outside of the building in an insulating layer, without losing any internal floor space.
Key benefits:
External Wall Insulation
What it costs:
Typically £6,000–£10,000 for a mid-terrace, rising to £14,000–£20,000+ for a larger semi-detached or detached home, depending on wall area.
Is it right for your home?

A strong option for solid-walled properties, but planning permission may apply (particularly on street-facing walls, in conservation areas, or on listed buildings) – something we check before recommending it.
