EV Charging
What it is:
A dedicated charging point installed at your home, so you can charge an electric
vehicle overnight instead of relying on public chargers.
How it works:
A 7kW home charger fully recharges most electric cars overnight on a cheap
off-peak electricity tariff – far cheaper and more convenient than public charging.
Key benefits:
- Significantly cheaper per mile than public charging or petrol/diesel
- Charges overnight while you sleep, ready every morning
- A government grant of up to £500 is available for renters, flat owners, landlords, and homes without off-street parking (from April 2026)
What it costs:
Typically £700–£1,200 fully installed for a standard 7kW charger. Homeowners with a driveway currently pay the full amount; the £500 grant applies specifically to renters, flat owners, landlords, and on-street parking situations.
Is it right for your home?
Straightforward for most homes with off-street parking. If you park on the street, options are more limited and worth discussing with us directly – a larger “22kW” charger is rarely worth the extra cost, since it needs a three-phase electricity supply most homes don’t have.
